Introduction
A career in accounting provides individuals with a
competitive entry-level salary and long-term growth
potential--particularly those who have earned CPA certification.

salaries ranged from $30,000 - $43,000 (small firm)

Although Robert Half does not compile salary data for
accountants in government, the National Association
of Colleges and Employers (NACE) (www.jobweb.org) publishes
a quarterly newsletter that examines starting salaries
for a wide range of professions. According to the Fall
2002 NACE Salary Survey, entry-level salaries for accounting
positions in government averaged about $33,468* (federal
government) and $33,245 (local/state government).
* The information is based on a limited sample size.
Accounting educator salaries increase significantly
as individuals advance. An annual study conducted by
The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business
(AACSB) reveals the high, low, mean, median and mode
salary ranges for accounting faculty based on status.
Assistant accounting faculty received a mean salary
of $86,100 from accredited colleges during the 2001-2002
academic year. The mean salary of associate accounting
faculty was $88,100 at accredited colleges. Full accounting
faculty received a mean salary of $107,000 from accredited
colleges. Individuals with doctorates received higher
salaries than those with other types of degrees.
It's important to note that factors such as geographic
location, length of experience, level of education,
CPA designation, and the size of the employer all play
a role in determining salary.
